Here’s your weekly quick look at few developing stories in the political arena:
- On Tuesday, President Obama gave his annual State of the Union address in front of the joint session of Congress. “Let’s make this a year of action. That’s what most Americans want: for all of us in this chamber to focus on their lives, their hopes, their aspirations,” Obama said. In his speech, the President called for action with or without Congress’s help. Some of the issues Obama touched on were: Raising the minimum wage, income inequality, avoiding war, climate change, changing the tax code, fixing our infrastructure, education, and retirement, among others. The President also announced 12 executive actions that he will use to get things done without congressional approval. One of these is to raise the minimum wage for federal contractors.
