Political Quick Hits: March 29th Edition

Here’s your weekly quick look at few developing stories in the political arena:

  • President Obama appointed the first female director  of the Secret Service this week. Julia Pierson was sworn in, becoming the first female director in the 148-year history of the Secret Service. Since, she  has been the chief of staff to the director of the Secret Service. She previously served as a special agent in the Miami field office and then a special agent in charge of protective operations. (CNN)

Political Quick Hits: March 22nd Edition

Here’s your weekly quick look at few developing stories in the political arena:

  • There will be no government shutdown, at least not for another six months. On Thursday, lawmakers in the House of Representatives approved funding of the government through September, which avoids a partial government shutdown. The legislation is also to meant to soften the blow a bit in regards to the recent $85 billion in forced spending cuts. It now goes to President Obama’s desk to be signed. (CNN)

Political Quick Hits: March 15th Edition

Here’s your weekly quick look at few developing stories in the political arena:

  • Paul Ryan, Republican congressman from Wisconsin and chair of the house budget committee, introduced his ideas this week on how the government can balance the budget within ten years with no tax increases. The plan would replace Medicaid with block grants to the states and totally repeal the Affordable Care Act (aka Obamacare). The plan would also cut the top corporate tax rate to 25 percent from 35 percent and reduce the number of income tax brackets to just two groups: 10 percent and 25 percent. The plan is seen as favoring only the wealthy and Democrats say they intend to use it against Republicans in the mid-term elections. (Reuters)
