Girls Day @ City Hall

Recently ,The Campaign Against Violence came together with City Hall and Alderwoman Milele Coggs to give some young women the opportunity to come and learn about our city.  Middle school and High school girls met some of the most respected Milwaukee women power. CAV accompanied the 7th and 8th grade girls from St.Marcus Lutheran School for the first Girls Day at City Hall. Parents,Teachers, and students came together to empower all of the women and girls who attended this wonderful event. Panels were filled with a variety of discussion topics such as: friends, careers, college, boys, overcoming struggles, and making life decisions. Everyone who participated walked away with a piece of positive empowerment to make changes in their lives. CAV and St.Marcus are  most certainly looking forward to next Girls Day at City Hall.

SLC Training

youngvoter.org is coming together with our community to give our youth something positive and fun to do during the summer of. The SLC  Training program is offered to inner city youth form the ages of 17-23, and  is based upon helping our youth develop the appropriate skills to be Leaders in their communities. The Training program is a 8 week session, 6 weeks of training and 2 weeks to complete a final project. Through this our interns will develop leadership skills, learn how to get engaged with the people of the community, do multiple field projects and help prepare more future leaders. This program is great for anyone who loves to talk and even for those who don’t we will brake you out of that shell. Currently we have 5 interns working with us as we speak. There are 10 spots available, there is a application that needs to be filled out and a essay needs to be submitted along with the application. The application process is going on now, if anyone  is interested here is the link to complete the application.

Winning the War on Voting by Getting People IDs

The #1 item on the League’s agenda is fighting back in the War on Voting by helping 30,000 low-income youth get new IDs this year.

Text “ID” to 69866 to get the ID requirements in your state.

It’s our job to make sure that we get young people IDs and keep them informed. That’s why we’re partnering with Rock the Vote to spread awareness about the new laws. Not only will we be launching a massive media campaign- we’re also going to provide buses to get young people to the DMV to get new IDs throughout the next six months.
