As the 82nd Texas Legislative Session begins in Austin, TX, the Texas League is working with groups across the state to educate and raise awareness about recently proposed anti-immigration legislation. To date, approximately 40+ anti-immigration bills have been proposed in the Legislature, among one being House Bill 17 (Relating to the creation of the offense of criminal trespass by an illegal alien and to certain procedures for arresting illegal aliens for committing that criminal offense) which is a similar bill to Arizona’s Senate Bill 1070.
Texas League’s Christina Sanders and Reynaldo Guerra participated in an immigration panel discussion at the University of Houston and was joined by other young organizers on the beginning of an indepth conversation on the impact of immigration reform legislation in Texas.
Over the course of the Texas Legislative Session, the Texas League will host a number of educational forums and trainings surrounding immigration. To check the status of the proposed bills in the Texas Legislature, please click here.
