So we asked for the artist to come out and they showed up! After election season the real fun starts with the League. Now that we have gotten people to the polls, we are working on getting people to the stage! Here is a piece written by Christopher Miller Jr. about what he sees when he looks out the window. Submit your art HERE.

Are You Listening?

By: Christopher Miller Jr.

Delusion, confusion; But with no Vision In site I look to the sky,
Then to my right and down the street wondering if my advice was heard.

Was my vote considered?

Waiting to see my neighborhood… My city, my country to fly and sores towards the completion of our dream of a better nation
Maybe some deletion of the issue those lay and baffle us day-to-day. The many roads undone; To our children’s schools; We work with small pay
With the state and town committing 211′s on our pay check
With each and every hour we give everyday…..Man and we sick of it.
Get these thugs off the corner; from standing in front of the store. No after school programs i know.
But I’m tired of watching ladies cuff and hold their purse from the car to the door.

Where is our protection? Oh yeah they working double and triple shifts.
Because the city won’t release extra money they take spending it on freeway, rehab to places I don’t use. Isn’t that a trip?

And down right funny.
Then they wonder why a lot of people don’t vote…..man they be confused.
And want to know what the heck you did with they money.
Trying to be patient as bill..After …bill is so important
So many Issues after issue, making my eye water trying to read.

Man I need some tissue because all these issues are starting to make my eyes hurt and my nose bleeds.

I’ve told you the issues…I’ve listen to the lies.

I hope when I voted this time.

My opinion is not just set aside.

Young people are taking to the streets as we face rampant unemployment and unprecedented attacks on our right to vote. Ohio sets the stage for political movements nationwide – and this is no exception. The past 11 presidential election outcomes have been decided by the state of Ohio. Make no mistake about it – #2012StartsNow.

In Ohio, legislators spent the past spring sneaking in deceptive legislation during off-year elections when they thought that we wouldn’t be paying attention. Last spring, Gov. Kasich’s administration passed SB-5, decimating Ohio workers’ rights. The controversial law could lead to massive layoffs of teachers, firefighters and law enforcement in the state. Frustrated opponents went to the streets to bring the issue onto the ballot as Issue 2 and have the public weigh in on it.

By honoring your pledge, you will be exercising your right to contribute to the decision-making process and influence the outcome. We would like to be a resource so that you can be an informed voter.

The Voter Registration Deadline is October 11th. If you are not registered to vote at your current address, we are here to help – just respond to this e-mail and we’ll let you know where you can get registered.

We want to go even deeper than just registering to vote. We will use our presence at the polls to create leverage that we can use to access economic resources.People power = economic resources.By reaching people, we can build a power base among young people, and have the voice to influence decisions that may otherwise be made for us. But it all starts with you!

Come join me as we reach out and continue to grow our mission. We are connecting young people who are not satisfied with the direction of government, and are ready to own our obligation to shape our own future.

Ready to get involved? Just e-mail me to volunteer and get young people registered before the deadline.

Our neighborhoods will be ignored if we don’t hold our leaders accountable. But first, we have to hold each other accountable. Before we can do that, we must hold ourselves accountable to show up and make our voice heard.

Columbus, OH – Based in Columbus since 2004, LYVEF Ohio has had strong community and campus chapters around the state, especially in Toledo and Cincinnati, which have risen and fallen with funding capacity. Over the years, LYVEF Ohio has focused on college access and affordability, economic and social justice issues, as well as nonpartisan voter registration, GOTV, election protection and election administration. In 2009, LYVEF Ohio focused on green jobs, gun violence, and affordable house and recreation programs for youth. We will continue to build and strengthen our states wide coalition and do sufficient trainings to have our constituents doing lobbying on the state level by midyear. We also worked to list build and register voters in preparation for the 2010 midterm elections, as well as promote participation in the census. In February we hired on Kwesi Low as a community organizer in Columbus, Ohio as part of our State Based Apprenticeship Program to ramp-up our civic engagement and census activities.

In 2010, LYVEF OH will focus on green jobs, gun violence, and affordable house and recreation programs for youth. In the first two quarters of 2010, Kwesi ran a Census participation campaign with a goal of contacting 3,000 young people in Columbus and surrounding areas.
